Solar Hot Water and Space Heating

Most of the enquiries we get are by people looking to save money on their energy bills. When those calls come in we direct them towards Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) even if they were picturing wind power or PV when they called. For most of Michigan Solar Domestic Hot Water has a better return than the other renewable energy technologies.

Many callers also want solar space heating to help with their furnace bills in the winter. We have excellent systems available to do so for the renewable energy enthusiast. Solar hot water by itself is the best option for the moderate enthusiast as it has the best marriage between load (because you need hot water year round) and fuel supply, or SUNSHINE. Because solar hot water is the low hanging fruit we typically will do an SDHW system for those who want space heat and oversize it by a couple of collectors to interface with the furnace in spring, fall and winter.

Our default is to use flat plate collectors but we are happy to work with other technologies for the customers with a particular preference. We have experience with AET flat plate collectors, Heliodyne flat plate collectors, Thermomax evacuated tube collectors, and others.

The systems shown on this page are located in Ann Arbor, Oxford, and Chelsea Michigan (MI).
